Bio ︎
︎Jon Ervin is a New York based artist working in
photography and video. He was born in 1989 in Oklahoma where he was raised and
then later moved to New York. He received a BFA in Photography from Parsons the
New School of Design in 2012. He also attended the School of Visual Arts where
he received an MFA degree in Photography, Video, and Other Related in 2014. He
derives inspiration from his rural childhood landscape and a blue-collar
environment which informed his male adolescent coming of age experiences. His work ranges from cultural documentation of
places throughout the United States to investigations of masculinity and shared
male experiences. Through still and moving images, he uses the camera as an
investigative tool as well as a vessel for performance. The camera becomes an
active participant between his subjects, himself, and the viewer to examine these
themes full of
contradictions and complexities.
